Texas Hold Em - How Much Should I Buy in For?
When buying in to a Texas Hold 'Em table online, how much should you buy in with? This is a difficult question, but there are basically two "correct" buyins.
1) The Table Maximum. With most online low limit players being really bad, you'll want to be able to catch all of their 100BB mistake, not just 20BB. So if you find a table where you think you're better than the players there, buy in for the max. This way if you flop a full house, and people are giving you action, you'll get the most amount possible. Having more money on the table means you'll risk more. You'll be put on more tough decisions, but as long as you're better than other players, it's worth it.
2) The Table Minimum. Having less money at the table prevents big stacks from having the correct odds to chase flushes or draws. Since you have so little money, it's not profitable for them to chase hands. Also you only stand to lose a minimum amount, so you're loses are minimized. Same with your profits though. At most you can only win the table minimum.
With either option you'll want to read up on bankroll management. You should always have at least 20 more buyins in the bank. This way if you hit a string of bad luck, you still have money to play with. You never want to put all of your chips on the table. Most of the times, even if a pro sat down at a table with only one buy in the bank, by the end of the day, he'll be broke.
