How to Play Poker - Texas Hold'em
Learn how to play poker and get to know the rules first. In the game of Texas hold'em each player is dealt two cards (hole cards). After this five cards (called community cards) are dealt face-up to the middle of the table. At first three cards are dealt, then one more and finally a last one.
Everyone can use them in conjunction with their own two cards to build their hand. In between the dealing of those cards there are four rounds of betting. You can bet chips, or money, on your hand.
Your Options in a betting round
Fold You lay down your cards and withdraw from the current round.
Bet If nobody before you has bet anything you can do it yourself. If you bet 5 chips (place them in the pot) whoever wants to continue playing must match your bet. If they don't, they can fold.
If you bet all your chips, this is called going all-in. Once you are all-in you will automatically be in the hand until the end. You can either win or lose. If you go-all in, this puts a lot of pressure on other players as this indicates that you probably have good cards or are bluffing.
If you play the hold'em variation, Fixed Limit hold'em, there is no all-in and betting sizes are limited. This might be the game you should play if you like to cut down the effect of bluffing to a certain degree and play poker in a less aggressive way.
Raise You can raise a bet that means you bet more than is actually required. For example, the opponent has bet 5 chips you raise to 10 chips. This makes it expensive for other players to play on. Your raise indicates that you have good cards and other players have to decide if they want to go on or fold.
Call If someone has bet before you, You can just call, which means you place the same bet as he has. If he has placed 5 chips you place 5 chips as well and stay in the round or you fold and leave.
Check If nobody has bet anything yet, you can just check if you have mediocre cards, to see what will happen next.
If you know how to play poker you should learn to play proper starting hands. If you play every round you lose. You should fold bad cards right away to save money.
